Opinion - Do Or Die Gubernatorial Races In 2022

We are now less than a year to the next general elections that are scheduled for 9th August 2022. The elections will take place at the six levels of leadership starting with the president, governors, senators, women representatives, members of parliament and members of county assemblies.

There are several gubernatorial races that are expected to be tough shown shown below;

1. Kisii county

The county is dominated by Orange Democratic Movement leaders starting from the governor, senator and women representative. The current governor, James Ongwae is serving his second and last term hence the race to succed him is probably the hotest with more than ten aspirants declaring their interest. In ODM are senator Sam Ongeri, women representative Janet Ong'era and Dagoretti North MP Paul Simba Arati, in UDA are deputy governor Joash Maangi and Omingo Magara, others are Nyaribari Masaba MP Ezekiel Machogu, Rachel Otundo, Patrick Lumumba, Charles Matoke, Chris Obure and many others.

2. Mombasa county.

The ODM zone county will have to decide in party primaries who between Suleiman Shahbal and Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir will fly the ODM flag to battle with UDA's Hassan Omar.

3. Bomet county

The county will witness showdown between the current governor Hillary Barchok and Chama Cha Mashinani boss Isaac Rutto.

4. Kirinyaga county

The county that has always been dominated by women will have the likes of Anne Waiguru, Purity Ngirici and permanent secretary for interior Kibicho.

5. Kakamega county

There will be showdown in the county between Barasa, Cleophas Malala, Boni Khalwale, Professor Kutima and Ayub Savula.

6. Nakuru county

The gubernatorial race will be firce between current governor Lee Kinyanjui and senator Susan Kihika.
