Wajir deputy governor Ahmed Ali Muktur has been sworn in as the governor for wijir county following the Senate's move to uphold the impeachment of Mohammed Abdi Mohamud. The swearing in ceremony was conducted at the wijir county headquarters with the assumption of the governor act, 2019. He becomes now the third governor of wijir county after the impeachment of Mohammed Abdi Mohamud for gross violation.
Senate speaker Ken Lusaka issued a special Gazette notice on Monday following the senator's decision to uphold Abdi's impeachment. The immediate former governor was indicted on gross violation of the constitution of Kenya 2010; the county government act 2012; the public procurement and disposal act 2015 and the public finance management act 2012.
The wijir governor is the 9th county boss to face impeachment since the promulgation of the new constitution with two of his colleagues Mike Sonko and Ferdinand Waititu removed from office for gross misconduct.
