With only four days to August poll, Elgeyo Marwakwet county senator Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen is facing a toughest competition from his closest competitor Hon. Alex Tolgos who is also the incumbent governor who is completing his tenure after completing his two terms as the governor.
Senator Kipchumba is defending his seat for the third time after winning successfully in 2013 and 2017 general elections. In 2013 he defeated former minister and super politician Mr. Nicholas Biwott and in 2017 he confirmed it by beating the former Inspector General Hon. David Kimaiyo of KANU the party associated with Baringo county senator Hon. Gideon Moi, in this race it has raised an eyebrow with entry of Mr. Tolgos who is willing to serve as the county oversight which has caused senator Murkomen to tighten his muscles.
Governor Tolgos is making a political gamble by supporting anti-Ruto's team in the county , a county which is located in Rift Valley region making it part of the UDA's stronghold and backyards, this will challenge his bid hence giving Hon. Murkomen to defend his seat being a vocal leader in advocating for bottom up economic model and preaching the Ruto's presidency.
