The Devolution Empowerment Party President Lenny Kivuti spoke about why the party recently joined the United Democratic Alliance led by President elect William Ruto.
Speaking to the media at Kanyuambora in Embu, Kivuti said Embu being the backbone of the UDA coalition due to most residents' having a heart for the party is the core reason for joining the party.
Kivuti said the decision to move to UDA was made not only by himself as the party leader but also by all DEP party members, and was carried out for the sake of Embu county development.
"It is true that the Devolution Empowerment Party has joined UDA following an internal agreement,"he said. "It was not a decision of one person but a collective decision of the party because most of the people of Mount Kenya East voted for UDA,"
Kivuti, who lost in the Embu governor race to Cecily Mbarire, stated the importance of Embu development over his ego.
"Moving to UDA was also prompted by the need to have development in Embu, and if Embu could get to develop, then it is better than my ego as a person,"he added.
