Juliana Whonge Cherera has been elected unanimously as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) Vice-Chairperson.
She will take over from Consolata Nkatha who deputized Chebukati before resigning in April 2018.
During her vetting by the National Assembly's Justice and Legal Affairs Committee, Cherera stated that she would stay put in office even if she were to encounter attempts at external interference with her work or pressure from politicians to resign before elections.
"If things become sour, I will stay put like a captain. You know captains never abandon the ship," Said Cherera
Juliana Cherera is among four commissioners who were sworn in on September 2, by Chief Justice Martha Koome.
The other commissioners include Irene Masit, Francis Wanderi and Justus Abonyo.
The commissioners will serve a six year term.
