Murega Baichu, the husband of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, has been given two county positions. Baichu was chosen to serve as the ambassador to Meru's hustlers and the supporter of the Meru Youth Service.Mwangaza made the declaration at the governor's office as she unveiled her cabinet. She clarified, however, that Baichu won't be paid for the responsibilities given to him today, Friday, September 30.
Governor Kawira announced the members of her county cabinet at the same time as this appointment. It wasn't immediately apparent if the new positions would be considered jobs for which Baichu would get compensation.
The level of Murega Baichu's involvement in managing county affairs has alarmed the county. Murega Baichu is a musician and purportedly a preacher. Despite it being unclear what his tasks are, Baichu has been seen attending numerous high-level county meetings.
In the August general elections, Kawira, running as an independent, defeated Mithika Linturi, the incoming agriculture cabinet secretary, and Kiraitu Murungi, a former cabinet minister.
