Tension in Kakamega as Malala Leads Protest Against 'Disguised' Azimio Rally

Kakamega County gubernatorial aspirant Cleophas Malala in company of more than a thousand men stormed an Oparanya-organized event at Bhukungu Stadium in Kakamega county.

The event was scheduled for the 'anointing' of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Fernandez Barasa. The event had been disguised to be marking ten years of devolution and several Azimio La Umoja leaders were in attendance.

Anti-riot police had to intervene with tear gas canisters been launched at the scene to prevent the angry netizens from gaining access to the stadium.

Malala supporters alleged that the event had been planned to further endorse Barasa as Oparanya's 'project' in the county. As per the report, Oparanya was supposed to hand over an administrative strategy to Fernandez Barasa on how to run the county affairs.

Police ordered that no political speeches were to be made and Oparanya was forced to change his speech to a formal one. It took more than an hour and a half to read the speech to the raging crowd.
