Act Of Kindness: Raila's Promise To Dedan Kimathi's Wife Mukami Kimathi Ahead Of Mashujaa Day

Raila Odinga, the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), has promised to buy a house for Mukami Kimathi, the widow of late Mau Mau freedom fighter Dedan Kimathi.

When Odinga paid a visit to the 90-year-old Mukami at her home in Nairobi's Komarock Estate, he vowed to assist her in acquiring the property she had rented.

The former premier expressed his dissatisfaction with authorities' reluctance to recognize the importance of persons like Mukami in the struggle for independence.

“She has made an appeal saying that where she lives is rented and she would like it to be purchased. I will take steps to ensure it is purchased,” said Raila Odinga

Mukami was one of the women who played an important role in assisting male combatants during the Mau Mau revolt, including providing intelligence on colonial fighters. President Uhuru Kenyatta gave her the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear in 2016 for her service during the independence battle.

His call for the welfare of Mau Mau and other freedom fighters comes as Kenya readies herself for the Mashujaa Day celebrations scheduled for October 20.

His plea for the safety of the Mau Mau and other liberation warriors comes as Kenya prepares to celebrate Mashujaa Day on October 20.
