President William Ruto has cleared Dedan Kimathi’s widow, Mukami Kimathi's KSh 1.3 million hospital bill.Mukami had been detained at the Nairobi Hospital after being unable to raise the cash.DP Rigathi Gachagua accused former president Uhuru Kenyatta of failing to address issues of Mau Mau veterans saying they are now living in poverty.
“Mukami remains the symbol of our struggle and resilience, we respect her as she is a constant reminder of the struggle for our independence,” said Ruto.
Mama Mukami Kimathi was being held at a Nairobi hospital over Sh1 million bill that the family has been unable to foot.Gachagua visited her at the hospital on Sunday evening soon after he arrived in Nairobi from Nyanza from where he had accompanied the president on a two-day working tour.
Mukami, who is currently receiving treatment at Nairobi hospital, had called on Kenyans of goodwill to help her offset the hospital bill cleared.
