President William Ruto was on Saturday spotted carrying his own bag alongside other leaders during the Cabinet retreat in Nyeri County.
Kenyans have questioned why President Ruto's personal assistant, the Aide-de-Camp (ADC), Colonel Fabian Lengusuranga, did not assist the President with his briefcase, as it is typically the ADC's responsibility to carry the president's bag.
Some wondered if the lack of assistance was intentional or a protocol error.
However, Security and public relations experts Newton Tsar has analyzed the president's actions, with some public relations experts suggesting that the president was trying to present a populist image.
"It appears the President does not want the 'almighty' tag but wants to align to his Hustlers Philosophy, which is all about the poor.
"He is trying to fit in with the rest as they discuss something. As you can see the aide de camp is nowhere close even the others dont have bodyguards," PR expert Tsar Newton says.
According to Newton, the President who ran on the hustler mantra was indicating that neither his personality nor his philosophies had changed since becoming President.
During his campaigns, Ruto was seen eating maize by the roadside and freely interacting with members of the public on several occasions.
Kenyans, on the other hand, did not express any security concerns because it was assumed that the Hotel Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club, where Ruto was leading the Cabinet retreat, was relatively secure.
During the retreat, Ruto was adamant about the need to reduce spending. He allegedly ordered his Cabinet Secretaries to send their personal assistants home or pay their own bills.
He also refused to admit three principal secretaries (PSs) to the Cabinet meeting at the Mount Kenya Safari Club because they arrived later than him.
