Women leaders have been excluded for a long time in leadership. In 2017 elections, more women were elected in various profile leadership positions. Several women leaders were elected in Ukambani region and have delivered more than male leaders.
Some of super women leaders in the region includes: Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, CAS infrastructure Wavinya Ndeti, Machakos speaker Florence Mwangangi, senator Agnes Kavindu, Makueni women representative Rose Museo and Machakos women representative Irene Kasalu.
This women leaders have shaken the region's politics ahead of 2022 polls. Some of them have already declared their 2022 bids. Kitui Governor will be defending her gubernatorial seat while CAS Wavinya Ndeti will be vying for Machakos gubernatorial seat.
Makueni women representative Rose Museo have declared his Makueni gubernatorial candidature while speaker Florence Mwangangi is keen on succeeding Governor Alfred Mutua.
Various elected women members of parliament will also be defending their parliamentary seats. They include Hon. Rachael Kaki, Hon. Jessica Mbalu, Hon. Irene Kasalu and Hon. Edith Nyenze.
