Opinion: Why Raila lost to Ruto in Bungoma

As different media platforms were all out streaming results, candidates were all garnering mixed results from the tally. As per different TV stations, different candidates are taking lead with their different tallying methods. Ruto who had the lead in Bungoma county fairly beat Raila in the region where he beat him and Uhuru Kenyatta back in 2017 polls.

The reason why Raila lost of his Western region votes is because he lost one key person from the region, Moses Wetangula. Wetangula was one of the people who were in the NASA coalition principles together with Musalia Mudavadi and Raila Odinga. The 2017 tally had Raila garner most votes from the Western region beating the incumbent president and his deputy.

The Bungoma region and county had given him a massive 287,316 votes in comparison to rival Uhuru Kenyatta's 127,415 votes which was way half on what he garnered. This fall out on votes came in after his former team disband to join his rival with argument on who should be the flag bearer in a coalition. Raila Odinga who has 88,474 votes in the region compared to Ruto's 153,441 in the same region.
