Kiraitu and his allies skip Kawira's oath taking ceremony

Both the departing governor of Meru, Kiraitu Murungi, and his deputy, Titus Ntuchiu, avoided Kawira Mwangaza's oath of office.With the exception of county secretary Rufus Miriti, who was required to attend by law as the committee's chair, none of their personal friends or family members participated in the event.


Governor Mwangaza stated in her speech following the taking of the oath of office that she would cooperate with all leaders and that she was not there to exact revenge.

Despite just declaring his retirement from politics, Mr. Murungi, who finished third in the governor's race, has yet to congratulate Ms. Mwangaza who became the third governor of Meru.


Mithika Linturi, a former senator for Meru who finished second in the race for governor and Kathuri Murungi a former member of parliament who is now senator elect for Meru, were present and vowed to support Ms. Mwangaza's administration. They all agreed to put aside their differences and work for the people of Meru county
