A section of United Democratic Alliance, UDA Party members in Kandara Constituency have accused the immediate Former MP Alice Wahome of interfering with the process of electing her successor.
As quoted in a publication by People's Daily on Monday, the members argue that the Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary wants to have a say on who succeeds her despite now being a state officer,
Led by the youth spokesperson Laban Thuo, the UDA members alleged that Wahome has been intimidating some of the candidates, and their supporters ahead of the by-election slated for January 2023.
According to Thuo, Wahome has her own preferred candidate who she wants handed the UDA party ticket, with reports of also coercing the constituency staff to campaign for a certain candidate.
"We have information that the staff of the former MP are also being coerced to campaign for this particular candidate which is unacceptable. We are urging CS Wahome to desist from engaging in active politics now that she is serving in the Cabinet, and she is a civil servant," said Thuo.
Thuo claimed that if the events turn out as they are, the nominations expected to take place on November 26 would not be free and fair, urging the UDA party to dispatch new team to oversee the nomination process.
