Revealed; Usonga ODM Chairman Exposes IEBC Tactics In The Upcoming Voter Registration In Siaya

In what is likely to cause worry and concern among Raila Odinga supporters, John Orwenjo, the Alego Usonga Orange Democratic Movement party Chairman has opened the lid on some of the activities that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has been engaged in within Siaya County as they prepare for the mass voter registration that is expected to kick-off on Monday.

This comes hot on the heels of the recent announcement by ODM where they agreed to go easy on their demand that Wafula Chebukati vacate the electoral body.

Orwenjo revealed that, although plans had been put in place to ensure the upcoming registration drive captures an extra 23000 voters, the materials required to capture this were quite dismal.

The Alego Usonga ODM Chairman disclosed that the electoral body had only three kits necessary for registration in entire wards.

Although he expressed confidence that he would marshal numbers to ensure that their target as a party is met, he was unequivocal that the IEBC had an average of only three registration kits per ward in the area.

ODM party officials in Alego/Usonga constituency, Siaya County have been instructed to embark on a door-to-door campaign on ID card and voter registration drive to increase the number of registered voters in the region.

Orwenjo has directed them to ensure that all potential voters are registered in readiness for next year’s general elections.

He stated that their main target is to increase the number of registered voters even up to 200,000 and therefore encouraged those who have not yet registered as voters to take advantage of the mass voter registration exercise that will kick off next on October 4th.

Mr. Orwenjo gave the remarks during their meeting at the ODM Alego/Usonga branch offices in Siaya town attended by nominated MP Prof. Jackline Oduol.

Ms. Oduol said this is the time for people to come together and mobilize each other to register as voters irrespective of their political affiliations.

She said that the main aim of striving to increase their voter registration numbers is to ensure they strengthen ODM leader Raila Odinga’s political strength even as he prepares to give his fifth stab at the country’s top seat.
