On Saturday, May 21, Machakos county women have to lead a walking campaign for the National Women's Peace Walk 2022. Women are crying that they are the mostly affected when post-election violence occurs.

During the 2007 post-election violence, thousands of women and girls were sexually assaulted and raped.CARE in collaboration with Kenya Gender Commission and UN urgency UNIFEM collected 300 testimonials who were raped during post-election violence in 2007.
Out of the 300 testimonials, 60 of them were rape cases that were committed by the General Service Unit (GSU) and the special unit of the Kenyan Military.
Many women lost their hustles due to the shootings and the invasions. Other women were brutally injured, and others lost their husbands and children.

It hurts when women remember what they went through in the post-election violence in 2007. This triggered the Machakos women in conjunction with all Kenyan women to go on a walk campaigning for peaceful elections.
