Mt Kenya leaders and residents will not allow President Uhuru Kenyatta's successor to trouble him in his retirement, Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata has said.

Uhuru will leave the State House after August 9 general election having occupied the country's most powerful office from 2013 when he succeeded Mwai Kibaki.

Kang'ata noted among the four presidential hopefuls, it is either Azimio La Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga or Deputy President William Ruto of Kenya Kwanza who will to take over from Uhuru in the coming days.

In his column published by Sunday Nation, the Senator, who is allied to Kenya Kwanza, said Mt Kenya will oppose any attempts by the incoming Head of State to attack Uhuru after he leaves office.

"As our Mt Kenya son, rest assured we shall have your back if either makes an attempt to undermine your peaceful retirement," he said.

"Mt Kenya will forever view you as its own son. Nyumba na rika itiumagwo (One never leaves his age set or house). Na cire Gikuyu itire ukabi (and the things in Kikuyuland are definitely not in a foreign land)," Kang'ata added.

Ruto recently vowed to form a judicial team to investigate actions and policies of President Uhuru if he wins the election slated for next week.
