Speaker Moses Wetangula Meets Russian Ambassador To Kenya

Russia keen to establish a Kenya-Russia Parliamentary Friendship Group to enhance Parliamentary diplomacy and engagements between the two countries. 

While paying a courtesy call on the Speaker of the National Assembly the Rt. Hon. (Sen.) Moses Masika Wetang’ula, H.E. Dmitry Maksimychev, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Kenya congratulated the Speaker for his election to the helm of the August House noting that his counterpart Speaker was also delighted to learn his appointment and that he was ready to collaborate on matters Parliamentary diplomacy. 

The two discussed issues regarding exchange programs between law- makers of the two countries aimed at knowledge sharing and learning from each other on politics and leadership.

Speaker Wetang’ula acknowledged the kind gestures from  H.E. Dmitry Maksimychev and his counterpart in Russian indication that Kenya is a progressive country ready to embrace new development- oriented ideas. 

The Speaker nostalgically traced his first visit to Russian way back in 1979 when he attended a student conference in Moscow and toured the country. He indicated that he was keen to oversee the establishment of a Parliamentary Friendship Group between the two Houses of Parliaments for purposes of parliamentary diplomacy.  

He cordially extended an invite to his counterpart of the Federal Assembly of Russia through Ambassador Dmitry Maksimychev saying that he will be glad to host him in Kenya for further Parliamentary collaborations. 

The Speaker called upon Russia for further bilateral collaborations in tourism, transport and technology among other sectors.
