Reliable sources say that President Uhuru Kenyatta was supposed to lead peaceful talks between Ethiopia and Tigray, which have been at odds diplomatically in South Africa, but he has decided not to participate.
This occurs just one month after President William Ruto appointed Uhuru Kenyatta as his peace envoy for the Great Lakes Region and the Horn of Africa.
The purpose of this position was to allow Uhuru to continue leading peace interventions on behalf of the Kenyan government task that Ruto revealed to Uhuru Kenyatta during his Inauguration Ceremony and that he warmly accepted.
His first task was to facilitate peaceful talks between Ethiopia and Tigray, but Uhuru Kenyatta has stated that he will not be attending the call because he has other important responsibilities.
