Nandi County: 2 Serious Gubernatorial Aspirants Who Pose A Threat To Governor Sang's Re-election

Nandi governor Stephen Kipyego Sang is facing a stiff rivalry in his quest to retain his seat in 2022 as more aspirants for the same post mount their aggressive campaigns.

Sang is facing immense criticism from the electorate, majority of which voted for him in 2017 for abdicating his responsibility of delivering on his preelection pledges. This has made a number of them reconsider their decision in 2022 polls.

The incumbent is accused of failing to combat graft in his administration and practising nepotism while employing county staff. A number of corruption incidents have tainted his government since he came to office among the sectors that were affected includes education department where building materials such as iron sheets and bags of cement were allegedly stolen. Also, there was a procurement list that did rounds on social media showing an inflation of prices of bags of cement that were poised to be purchased.

Senator Samson Kiprotich Cherargei, together with Members of Parliament from the county castigated the governor for failing to avert and fight corruption. They blasted him for entertaining theft and money-laundering.

The tainted image of governor Sang's administration has made most of elected leaders, particularly the MPs to lose faith in him. They have vowed to ensure that he is voted out in 2022.

This has also leveraged chances of success of politicians who have declared interest in the county's gubernatorial seat in 2022 general elections.

Among the individuals who have threatened Sang's reelection include two serious politicians:

1) Allan Kosgei - MP Tindiret Constituency

Allan Kosgei is the son of the retired veteran politician Henry Kosgei and a second term Member of Parliament representing Emgwen constituency.

The MP has gained admiration and affection from a number of county residents for uplifting education through Constituency Development Fund (CDF) sponsorship programs and empowerment of the poor not only in his area of jurisdiction but also in other constituencies.

His declaration for 2022 gubernatorial bid has attracted a number of residents to him, drifting support that governor Sang once enjoyed.

2) Antipas Tirop

Antipas Tirop is an upcoming politician who could be giving governor Sang sleepless nights Although he is a greenhorn in politics, his popularity is gaining traction as days go far.

He has an ambitious manifesto aimed at alleviating poverty in the county if elected as the next governor in 2022.
