The Governor said death had robbed him off a great friend whom he visited recently for blessings.
"I have learnt with shock and sadness the demise of Bishop Makokha, Head of Church of God in East Africa. The cruel hand of death has robbed us a steadfast clergy who build Church of God to international recognition, a church which is now synonymous with him," said Oparanya.
He said he knew Bishop Makokha not only as his close friend but also as the Head of the church which he (Oparanya) was baptized in when he was 10 years old.
"He was a very inspiring church leader whom other leaders should emulate from. I visited him last month and he was jovial giving me a long history of the church. Little did I know that those were his last words to me," he said.
The Governor noted that the Bishop's death should unite the church and he prays that God will guide the church as they look for a new Head.
"May the Almighty God comfort his family and friends during this trying moment. Go well Bishop," the Governor said.
