Residents from the Rift Valley region have had their businesses come to a standstill following the loss of power in the region. Kenya Power and Lightning Company had a scheduled power interruptions in parts of Rift Valley on Sunday April 11.In summary of the statement, KPLC had indicated that the power interruption shall run from 7:00Am to 5:00pm East African Time in the stated regions. However, the company has seemed not to honour its word since there was still a blackout even after 5:00pm.
Residents in the affected regions have not taken the matter lightly questioning KPLC on what's going on. Some of the residents have counted loses on their perishable goods which depends on electricity to keep them fresh. As late as 20:30pm, the power was not yet on leaving the residents restless and worried with the blackout.
A prominent politician from the North Rift Valley area lamented about the issue to KPLC on failing to honour their word. According to Hon. William Chepkut, KPLC failed to keep its word on restoring power by 5pm.
He adds that the North Rift and regions surrounding it are in total darkness. We hope that KPLC will be more responsible in keeping their words in future keeping in mind that some businesses depend greatly on electricity.
