Azimio la Umoja has embarked on zoning of some regions so as to ensure they do not lose the seats to their opponents because of double interests. These are counties that are considered as swing vote as theeir opponents also have a considerable amount of support. In Nyanza there is generally competition between Independent candidates and the ODM candidates, also affiliate parties. There is no big threat of losing to UDA in most counties.
However in Kisii and Nyamira, the coalition will have to do the dropping of some candidates so as to avoid losses. This is because William Ruto amasses a considerable amount of support in the two counties. Without zoning, there is high risk of losing to UDA considering they only have single candidates as a coalition.
In Kisii, Azimio has Chris Obure of Jubilee, DAP Kenya's Ongeri Sam and ODM's Arati as the leading candidates. All of them have considerable support. If they don't come together, then there is possibility of losing to Machogu of UDA. In Nyamira it is the same case, Timothy Bosire vs Amos Nyaribo all in Azimio. They will need to drop other candidates.
