Kalonzo Musyoka Says President Uhuru Owes Him A Political Debt

President Uhuru Kenyatta owes Kalonzo Musyoka a political debt, according to party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

During President Mwai Kibaki's second term in office, Kalonzo claims to have played a key part in the appointment of President Uhuru Kenyatta as Deputy Prime Minister.

Kalonzo said Kibaki was hesitant to promote another Kikuyu to a high job at the time, speaking during a meeting between OKA leaders and Mt Kenya Foundation members.

"I'll tell you the truth," Kalonzo said. "It was me who persuaded Mzee Kibaki to appoint President Uhuru as Deputy Prime Minister."

Due to the political sensitivities brought on by the post-election violence, Kalonzo indicated that Kibaki found it difficult to appoint another Kikuyu to a top position.

"Do you want me to nominate another Kikuyu because Mzee Kibaki is a nationalist?" Kalonzo reflected on his past experiences.

President Uhuru established the strength that secured him the presidency, according to Kalonzo, by being appointed as Deputy Prime Minister.

“Remember the Kofi Anna Talks when Raila named Mudavadi... I was in the PNU with Kibaki at the time... Yes, I responded.

And Uhuru rose through the ranks to become deputy prime minister, commerce minister, and then finance minister,” Kalonzo explained.

Kalonzo believes President Uhuru owes him a political debt as a result of this.

Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka, Gideon Moi, and Moses Wetangula, among the leaders of the One Kenya Alliance, met with the Mt Kenya Foundation.

This follows a similar meeting with Raila Odinga, the leader of the ODM party.

According to the group, President Uhuru had requested that they engage several presidential candidates.

"This is the road we've begun, and when we're finished, we'll go back to the President and tell him this is the person we want to follow you," said Titus Ibui, the foundation's Vice-Chair.
