Bungoma County is under the leadership of Governor Wycliffe Wangamati, is constructing an ultra-modern stadium named after the late local hero Masinde Muliro. It is set to be the largest sports ground facility across the Western region. The detailed information from the Governor's office says, the stadium is set to have a total capacity of about 20,000 people in the first phase. This phase is scheduled to be ready by the middle of this year, the pavilions and terraces are now almost completed with 45 percent of the work already done. This was reported the governor during his inspection visit the project earlier this year.

“Sitting on 20 acres, the upgrade of the facility is split into two phases. The first phase of the upgrade will see the stadium built to accommodate 20,000 people, while the second phase will further increase the capacity of the facility to a 40,000 capacity. This will make our county stadium to be the largest in the whole western part of the country." Said the statement from the Bungoma county.

The facility will be also an all-seater with various other features such as the soccer pitch, dressing (changing rooms), athletics running tracks, toilets, VIP lounge, floodlights, media turbine, conference room, hotel and restaurants. All these features are set to transform the facility into an international standards hence expected to enable the facility to hold both local, national and international games.
