Deputy President William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza Alliance (KKA) has suffered a major blow after an influential leader defected to the rival Azimio La Umoja Movement.

Lawyer Bryan Khaemba dumped Ford-Kenya, which is led by Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang'ula, and joined Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) which is associated with Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa.

Wetang'ula's Ford-Kenya, Ruto's UDA and Musalia Mudavadi's Amani National Congress (ANC) are the main parties in Kenya Kwanza.

Khaemba was welcomed to DAP-K by Wamalwa, party leader and Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi among other officials.

In 2019, Khaemba was thrown into the headlines for the wrong reasons after it was alleged that he received a bribe to rule in favour of former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu.

He was suspended by CJ David Maraga over alleged bribery but he sued the CJ and won the case.

During his suspension, Khaemba opened a law firm which brought him a lot of money as at one time could have had over 120 active files in different courts.

“The money I could get as salary in the Judiciary for 12 months, I could make it within three days. Why would I go back to the judiciary? This is the place I ought to have been from way back,” the former magistrate said in a past interview with the Star.
