Politicians Want To Use Nicknames Instead Of Official Names In 2022 General Elections

A bill has been presented in senate by Nyeri senator Ephraim Maina which seeks both Parliaments to pass a bill that will enable politicians use their nicknames, the current IEBC laws barrs politicians from using funny names on ballot boxes something which Ephraim wants Parliament to amend, according to the lawmaker many politicians normally lose elections due to names they use on ballot papers and those they use during campaign,he insisted that a good number of them usually pick different names while campaigning.

The legislator further added that name and recognition is something that IEBC should implement because voters normally use names they used in campaigns when going to vote,Ephraim disclosed that they cannot use IEBC name changing procedures because it takes time for them to change names during elections,he claimed with new laws he is trying to amend it will be easier for them to use their nicknames during elections without bothering IEBC with documents.

With mass voter registration taking place all over the country IEBC has stopped registering of votes in some counties citing lack of funds by national government, this contradicts this years announcement of the same commission when they wanted to organize a referredum.
