The Director of Communications in the Office of Deputy President has summarised President Uhuru Kenyatta's today's function in Nakuru as a political event in readiness for 2022 general election.

Uhuru was in the town at the Central Rift Valley to confer it with city status charter, and was accompanied by area Governor Lee Kinyanjui, ODM Raila Odinga and a host of other leaders.

But Deputy President William Ruto's aide Emmanuel Talam said Uhuru was in Nakuru to launch Raila as the presidential candidate for the 'system'.

Referring to the ODM boss as "project", Talam also claimed the President had settled on KANU chairman and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi as Raila's running mate.

"Project Raila and Gideon Moi has been formally launched in Nakuru. It will be a good race this one!" the DP spokesperson said.

Raila is expected to launch his presidential bid next week on December 9 and has been urging Moi's colleagues in OKA to support his ambition but they have remained non-committal.

Prof Edward Kisiang'ani, a member of Ruto's think tank, has said if the ODM leader will be on the race it will very easy for the DP to win the much-awaited elections.
