Monday evening has been a massive whack on Wajir governor Mohammed Abdi after a successful impeachment executed by the senate. Only two senators were on his support proving it impossible for him to circumvent the ouster unlike during the impeachment of Kirinyaga's Anne Waiguru. Mohammed Abdi now joins Mike Sonko and Ferdinand Waititu in the list of impeached governors in Kenya.
Governor Abdi is set to surrender several government properties heretofore allocated to him alongside forfeiting numerous benefits he basked from the government. Governors are among the country's top salary earners pocketing up to a million Kenyan shillings per month with countless allowances. As of Mohammed Abdi, he is no more going to enjoy the following state benefits.
Governor Muhamed will no longer receive his Ksh.924,000 gross monthly remuneration. He will miss the over Ksh. 300,000 monthly allowance budgeted for governors. The total subsidy constitutes a Ksh. 80,000 governor's allowance, accommodation allowance, Ksh 10,000 monthly airtime, government security, his governor's car, and a private chauffeur.
He will also miss the annual medical cover of up to ten million for his family, life insurance of up to ten million per year, work injury benefits, personal accident medical cover of up to ten million annually, the government offered home utilities and government-employed attendants in his home.
