What Forced Uhuru Kenyatta To Sack Kembi Gitura Over KEMSA Looting

President Uhuru Kenyatta revoked the appointment of Kembi Gitura as chairman of the board of the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA).

In a Gazette notice of April 29, Uhuru appointed Mary Chao Mwadime as the new chairman of the KEMSA board.It was at this point in the meeting that Blinken urged Uhuru to remove those involved in mass looting at KEMSA.

Gitura's ouster came a day after President Uhuru Kenyatta met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.The two leaders held bilateral talks during Blinken's visit to Kenya.

Blinken said the United States government is deeply concerned about corruption in KEMSA, which is heavily funded by US agencies, such as USAID and PEPFAR.

He also urged Uhuru that the US government would not approve the shipment of drugs via KEMSA until a major change in its administration was made.

Kembi Gitura witnessed the looting of Sh 7.8 billion, was among the affected as identified by the department.
