Machakos Governor and party leader of Maendeleo Chap Chap, MCC, Dr Alfred Mutua during a Kenya Kwanza rally in Machakos, he launched a scathing attack on the new Azimio la Umoja one Kenya coalition deputy presidential candidate, Martha Karua for not believing in God. “Je mtakubali mtu mwenye haamini kuna Mungu aingie katika uongozi wa inchi yetu? "His statement meant to link Narc Kenya party leader to an atheist, who has no belief on the existence of God.
However, Atheists in Kenya (AIK) have denied claims linking Ms Karua to be among their member. Through their leader, Harrison Mumia, he said that Every person has the right to manifest any religion through worship, practice, teaching or observance including observance of the day of worship.
They also stressed that the 2010 Constitution allows and guarantees every person the right to freedom of conscience, religion, thought, belief and opinion. Therefore, Mutua's remarks shows how the non-believer organisation is facing stigmatization and discrimination and yet they are registered, having membership from atheists, agnostics, and free thinkers across the country.
