Nominated senator Karen Nyamu has set the bar high for the Kenyan government. This is after she planned a five days mission to discuss the welfare of kenyan domestic workers in Saudi Arabia, today being her second day.
She allegedly held a meeting with Phillipines ambassador Mr. Rommel A. Romato. This is after the Kenyan delegation called on his team at the Phillipines Embassy.
The meeting between the two team was for Karen Nyamus' team to gain insight about how Phillipines keep track of their migrant workers' general welfare.
According to Karen Nyamus' report, Phillipines has the highest number of migrant workers in Saudi Arabia. They are 700,000 in number and 49% are domestic unskilled workers while 51% are unskilled.
The issue of kenyan domestic workers coming home in bad conditions has been trending over the years. Many leaders have been allegedly promising to look into the issue but it has taken time for this to happen. Karen Nyamu has set a high standard which in my opinion should be given attention and support for it to be successfully accomplished.
