Positive News For Ruto as Murathe Reveals The Feeling in Mt Kenya About 2022

It is almost clear, even to the locals, that the Mt Kenya region will not have a serious presidential candidate in the 2022 general elections, Jubilee Party Vice Chair David Murathe has said.

He says that the feeling is that the region will instead seek the Deputy President seat, hence the push and pull being witnessed as leaders try to attract the top seat's aspirants.

He told The Saturday Standard that the feeling is that the region is readying itself to rally behind either Deputy President William Ruto or ODM leader Raila Odinga in search of the DP position.

For him, this is the reason why the likes of National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi are rushing to install themselves as regional kingpins, hoping to be picked as running mate.

"I think what is informing Muturi’s moves at the moment is the feeling in Mt Kenya that we are all lining up to be running mates of either Raila Odinga, William Ruto, Musalia Mudavadi or Kalonzo and so forth," the vocal leader is quoted.

He spoke as he dismissed Muturi's coronation event slated for today, reminding him that the position he wants to occupy is already occupied by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He adds that the Speaker must also approach other area leaders if he has his political ambitions, which he has not done, even as he seeks the GEMA spokesman seat which elders could give him today.

“Muturi could be nurturing certain ambitions and if he comes to us and says what he wants, we are happy to listen," the former Gatanga parliamentarian is quoted.

Ruto has been very keen on running away with a portion of the millions of votes Mt Kenya has to offer, and seems to be succeeding, according to his allies, a good number of whom are from the region.

Murathe, a close Uhuru ally, has personally been of the opinion that the region is better off with a Raila presidency, vowing that everything possible will be done to prevent Ruto from succeeding Uhuru.
