After the contract with the state-owned national hospital insurance fund (NHIF) expired earlier this year, the national police service successfully hired a new insurance service provider.
The bidding was won by a private group of insurance companies, and they were hired to cover all of the national police service employees.
However, there were complaints because lower-ranking officers claimed that the cover did not provide them with the same benefits as NHIF.
Pauline Njoroge, a former Uhuru Kenyatta ally and blogger, was offended by president William Ruto's assurance that police officers will not be required to purchase their own uniforms in the future.
Njoroge asserts that the president's remarks are merely intended to deceive the officers in order to conceal the mess brought on by the new insurance policy.
She stated, "President William Ruto is attempting to conceal the mess with the police health insurance cover."
