Former cabinet secretary Charles Keter has revealed what happened after the media was asked to get out of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) delegates conference at Kasarani. Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Citizen Television's Francis Gachuri on Tuesday, the former cabinet secretary said that the UDA national executive council (NEC) read its report to those who were present. The council then recommended Deputy President Dr William Ruto as the person to fly the UDA flag, a recommendation which was overwhelmingly supported.
"The NEC read its recommendation to the party members who were present in the auditorium. Members backed the recommendation that Ruto be the candidate for the party in the 2022 presidential election. That is what happened when the media left, " the former cabinet secretary who is seeking to be the next Kericho governor said on Tuesday.

UDA delegates unanimously installed DP Ruto as the party's presidential candidate in the 2022 polls slated for August. He will slug it out with his long time adversary Raila Odinga with whom he fell out in the lead up to the 2013 election. Mr Odinga was named the Azimio La Umoja presidential candidate last week at the historic Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC).
The two leaders have not yet unveiled their running mates as speculation mounts on who they will pick to deputize them. Pundits opine the choice of running mate will strengthen or wreck their respective presidential bids. There have been pressure on both to pick from Central Kenya.
