Report reveals the fate of Meru Speaker after Governor Kawira Mwangaza was impeached

Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza was impeached by 67 out of 69 Members of the County Assembly of Meru voted yes to the Impeachment Motion tabled by Hon. DMK Kiogora Member for Abogeta West and Minority Party Whip. The impeachment motion was tabled at the Assembly on Wednesday morning.

"Honourable members, I wish to declare that the Governor of Meru Hon. Bishop Kawira Mwangaza stands impeached by the Meru County Assembly," Speaker Ayub Bundi Solomon said.

The latest report indicates that Kawira Mwangaza has filed a petition seeking to challenge county Assembly Speaker, Solomon Ayub Bundi's conduct after presiding over her impeachment motion on Wednesday, December 14. Mwangaza through her lawyer alleged that the speaker ignored High Court's orders which barred debate over the impeachment motion until the matter is heard and determined on Tuesday, December.

Elias Mutuma who is Mwangaza's Lawyer stated that Speaker Bundi allowed the MCAs to table a new impeachment motion against Mwangaza, which was debated and unanimously voted upon."The speaker was in violation of conservatory orders by the High Court, which expressly barred debate and vote on the impeachment motion," Lawyer Mutuma explained. This means that Meru speaker went against the court orders and he may be jailed.
