GSU Officers Saved My Life. I would Have Died- Senator Ledama

Ledama ole Kina, a senator from Narok, claims that he would have been killed in the brawl at Bomas of Kenya before the announcement of the presidential results. The lawmaker claimed in a tweet on Friday that he would not have survived if it weren't for the GSU officers who protected him from his assailants.

"I was viciously attacked in Bomas by Ruto's followers shouting kill him, kill him. The majority were elected MPs. The General Service Unit protected me. I would have died if not for them. Thank you, National Police Service. I thank everyone who has contacted me to check on my well-being," Ole Kina said.

On Monday, August 15, just before the presidential results got announced, the national tallying center at Bomas erupted into chaos. Ole Kina was one of the lawmakers supporting Raila Odinga's bid for the presidency who attempted to stop IEBC head Wafula Chebukati from declaring the elections.

The Odinga supporters claimed manipulation of results by Mr. Chebukati. However, police and politicians supporting Ruto prevented them. Mr. Chebukati ultimately pronounced Ruto the President-Elect.

Senator Ledama reached out to Chebukati as he sat down before the conflict started at the Bomas. Several people attempted to hit the lawmaker with various things, including chairs. Chebukati and the other commissioners are snatched away and taken to the back of the theatre. Senator Ledama was hit on the head by one of the chairs.

Two IEBC commissioners, according to Chebukati, were hurt in the altercation.

Speaking on Wednesday, Chebukati claimed that the chaos affected commissioners and forced the postponement of polls in places where voting was not conducted.

On August 23, gubernatorial elections got scheduled in Kakamega and Mombasa counties, four MP constituencies, and two wards. However, all of those elections stand postponed indefinitely.
