Kenyans React on Talks About Mt Kenya Leaders Owing DP Ruto a Political Debt

Deputy President William Ruto has suffered a number of setbacks in his quest to get the vote-rich Mt Kenya region to support him.

Kenyans have expressed mixed reactions after Lawyer Donald B Kipkorir claimed that leaders from the region had in the past said they will return the favor to Ruto after he supported President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2013 and the 2017 presidential election.

Kipkorir had questioned whether the Mt Kenya leaders would keep their earlier promise to support Ruto come 2022 after latest talks that the leaders from the region will support a different presidential candidate.

Kenyans in reaction said Ruto should forget about getting the Mt Kenya support especially now that he is not working with the region’s kingpin, President Uhuru.

Another section said Ruto might have a chance of getting a huge percentage of Mt Kenya to support him if President Uhuru decides to support ODM leader Raila Odinga.

“Ruto should forget about Mt Kenya, they will not support him without Uhuru behind him,” said Keitany.

“I wish there was something like a cheerful debtor. Mt. Kenya MPs are a miserable lot because they're uncertain about their political future. They had imagined that the DP was their political insurance policy,” said Karan.

“If Uhuru supports Raila, Mt Kenya will support William Ruto, just wait,” said Unis Maina.

“Mt Kenya dislike repaying debts. They won't pay, ask Raila or even UK,” said George Guantai.

“The big question is whether Mt Kenya will pay the debt to Ruto,” said Henry Kamau.

Kipkorir in his post that got Kenyans talking had said, “I thought Mount Kenya MPs said they will vote for William Ruto in 2022 bec they are honourable people & want to keep a debt they owe him. When you are a Debtor, you will not question where the Creditor wants you to make the payment. A Debt is transferable by the Creditor.”
