The general election in 2022 is set to be a nail-biter. Several figures have expressed interest in succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is spending his second and final term in office.
However, According to a report in the Star Newspaper, a candidate for the Kericho gubernatorial seat has dropped out and joined Dr Mutai of the United Democratic Alliance Party as his running mate.
Engineer Fred Kirui has now joined the United Democratic Alliance Party and will now deputize for Dr Mutai in the primaries and ahead of the 2022 August elections under the UDA ticket.
"The two announced in a signed statement that they will run as a team in the Thursday United Democratic Alliance Party primary," the local daily reveals.
This has complicated Charles Keter's bid for Governor after the two agreed to work together in the approaching August elections.
In the August election, they will oppose Deputy Governor Lily Ngok, Professor James Sang, Independent Candidate Engineer Samuel Rotich, and Engineer Elijah Maru.
