Azimio Plans To Block A Section Of Cabinet Nominees With Integrity Issues

If President William Ruto nominates Cabinet secretaries with integrity difficulties, the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party says it will oppose their appointment.

According to a statement released yesterday, the coalition led by Raila Odinga has instructed its members of Parliament to vote against the nomination of any Cabinet Secretaries who are currently being prosecuted for criminal offences.

Kalonzo Musyoka, leader of the opposition Wiper party, spoke in Nairobi alongside Azimio-aligned legislators and accused Dr Ruto of appointing cabinet members who he said were facing significant integrity problems, including criminal and civil matters currently pending in court.

“The selection of cabinet secretaries, some of whom have active criminal cases, is questionable. This was not procedurally done on the basis of competencies and personal integrity. We shall direct our MPs to withhold approval of those who do not meet the Chapter Six threshold of our constitution,” Mr Musyoka said.

According to reports, some of the nominees that the Azimio coalition is targeting include:

1. Public Service CS nominee Aisha Jumwa and her agriculture counterpart Mithika Linturi.
