Meet The Former Aspirant MP Who Sold Ksh 6M Land Over Uhuru Campaigns, Now Living In Abject Poverty

The name Mercy Wanjiru Mwangi was a household name in previous general elections ranging from 2007 as her desire to someday be elected to represent Kenyans was unmatched.

In her exclusive interview with one of the local stations, Mercy Wanjiru who has caught the eyes of Kenyans after protesting in Nairobi CBD noted that she sold her land valued at Ksh6 million in Murang'a and used the money to popularise the Head of State's party in her constituency.

The agitated Wanjiru noted that she decided to go full force and spend all she have on the promise made by the party that women who were seeking electoral positions in the now-defunct The National Alliance (TNA) would offer them positions once the party got into power.

Apart from alleging that she used Ksh100,000 a day on roadshows to ensure Uhuru clinched power, she also added that at one point, she spent Ksh50,000 in buying meals for the TNA team that was working late as the election day neared and supplied a full truck with over 3 million pieces of glue.

"I decided to direct all my resources (to the campaigns) and even sold my shamba (land) to participate and help him. I first sold my land in Murang'a for like Ksh6 million. I directed all the resources to ensure that we sell the party in my constituency.

"Whatever I was doing, was for the party and the President, I was doing it for our success and I did not get any position. I would like him (President Uhuru) to help me since I directed all my resources to the party. Whatever he will see is good for me, I will appreciate," she added.
