Law Society of Kenya President Eric Theuri, has sent a message to the Parliament after President William Ruto sought to amend the constitution so as to introduce an official office of the Opposition Leader and its Deputy.
In a statement via The Star Kenya on Twitter, Theuri urged both houses (National Assembly and Senate) to reject President Ruto's proposal saying that the constitution should be protected due its supremacy.
"We call on Parliament and all right-thinking Kenyans to resist the attempt to mutilate our Constitution to change the basic structure of our Constitution," exclaimed Theuri.

He said that Ruto's proposal goes against the Supreme Court ruling on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) that a sitting President cannot initiate a constitutional amendment.
"The amendments are being initiated by the President contrary to the decision in the BBI case and therefore they should not see the light of day in Parliament," he added.
