The political parties had until end of today to submit the names of their aspirants to the elections body, IEBC. The deadline was applicable to all political parties that are interested in fielding a candidate to replace the impeached governor, Mike Sonko. The development around the impeachment had been a process that was built up earlier on, just as the governor was trying to settle in office.
IEBC has also issued a notice to all independent aspirants that they are required to submit their personal documents to the elections body by end of day, Monday December 28. The election for a new governor will be undertaken on February 18th, when Nairobi residents will vote in the leader of their choice.
Miguna it is!
In a twist of events, the party that was formerly led by the expelled former presidential aspirant, Ekuru Aukot, the Thirdway Alliance party has thrown their weight behind the Deported Kenyan and Canadian advocate, Miguna as their candidate of choice.
The man whose citizenship was stripped from has been living in Canada, where he hold the dual citizenship. The party has announced that they will be fielding the man as their candidate of choice in the upcoming elections and have submitted his name to the election commission.
It is however unclear whether the man will be cleared to run for office, given that he does not hold a valid Kenyan passport, after he alleged to have had his passport taken in by the Kenyan authorities. The race seems to be an interesting one just from the start.
