Mt Kenya Presidential Candidate Agrees To Have Raila As His Running Mate In 2022

Mwangi Wa Iria, governor of Murang'a, has stated that he does not mind having ODM leader Raila Odinga as his running mate in the 2022 presidential election.

The second-term county boss is one of the leaders who have expressed interest in succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta and has stated that he will not withdraw his candidacy.

He stated that he is not interested in being anyone else's running mate, and that those individuals should support him.

He stated that ODM leader Raila Odinga and Wiper party boss Kalonzo Musyoka are free to be his deputy if they want to be a part of his victory in 2022.

He spoke to the media at the Ihura Stadium, where he expressed confidence that he would win the Mt Kenya vote, which would ultimately give him the seat.

"I wouldn't mind running alongside ODM leader Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, or Musalia Mudavadi. We have the numbers, which is what counts in elections, and I am confident that I will garner a sizable portion of the votes cast here "The People Daily quotes the leader.

Interestingly, all three leaders have declared interest in the same seat and are viewed as bigger and more likely to defeat him on his home turf of Mt Kenya.

The governor also sought to clear the air, claiming that all top leaders claiming to be making inroads into Central Kenya are either mistaken or lying.

He stated that the region has owners and will not be fought over by outside politicians, and that he will not allow it to be taken over by others.

He stated that he will be representing the region, which is perceived to lack a serious candidate, in the race, accusing the others, reportedly Raila, Mudavadi, and Deputy President William Ruto, of disrespectfully seeking the Mt Kenya vote.

"People who have come to this area and claimed that the residents have already agreed to support them are lying. Mt. Kenya has its owners, and I'm not going to sit back and watch a few people trample on us as if we don't exist "He stated.

However, his comments come at a time when area leaders are aligning themselves with the others; Ruto and Raila, with almost no one in his corner.

The two, who are regarded as the two horses of 2022, are also regarded as the people who will split the mountain vote during the poll.
