Ex-Governor for the Kiambu County Government Ferdinand Waititu alias Babayao has something to be happy for today. The former Kiambu Governor was impeached due to gross misconduct, corruption, and abuse of office. In history, he is the first to be Impeached in Kenya. Waititu, being a man of hope, had declared to run for the Nairobi Gubernatorial race to succeed Mike Sonko, the ex Nairobi Governor who was also impeached a few weeks ago.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC and the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission barred him from Vying with facts that a leader who is impeached will not be allowed to vie for any elective position in Kenya. Waititu challenged this in court saying that though he was impeached for corruption and other mistakes, he was not yet proven guilty.
Today seems a good day for Waititu because the IEBC just published his name among the Independent candidates who will run for the Nairobi seat. What a relief. Seems the court had to side with him because it's a fact that he is not guilty of anything. This will be good news even to the Nairobi ex-governor Mike Sonko.
What do you think about the decision made by the court?
As a Kenyan, can you Vote Yes for an impeached governor?
