Joy to All MPs As Speaker of The National Assembly Moses Wetanguala Reveals This About allowances

Moses Wetang'ula, the speaker of the National Assembly, provided the most direct hint that the sitting allowance would be reinstated. Mr Wetang'ula reassured the MPs that they do not need to worry because he has already started talking to SRC while speaking to parliamentarians during their induction at a major hotel.

Just hours after meeting with SRC, MrWetang'ula informed the MPs, "We live gradually and not by reduction." The Parliamentary Service Commission, which is in charge of the welfare of lawmakers and parliamentary staff, is presided over by the Speaker of the National Assembly.

"We need a fair strategy where MPs are assisted in carrying out their duties... There have been contrasts and comparisons between Parliament and other government agencies. There won't be any scandal, I'm confident of that, the Speaker declared.

The decision to eliminate the Sh5,000 plenary sitting stipend for MPs and the Sh3,000 MCA allowance, according to Ms Mengich, will save the public Sh8.2 billion over five years.
