Raila says that during Ruto’s time when he was the minister incharge of Agriculture, he awarded tenders in the ministry to his friends who charged Kenyans exorbitant prices that the country has never recovered from. He says that is the reason why he fired him from the Ministry of Agriculture and it is only Kibaki who sympathized with him and gave him his job back.

“Ruto cannot save the country from its maize woes, they started when he was incharge of the Agriculture ministry. Instead of doing his job when he was given that job, he gave his friends the tenders that surrounded that office and that is how Kenyans are now suffering today. The price of maize has never gone down since that time. That is why I fired him from the Agriculture ministry but he was lucky to be reinstated by Kibaki,” Raila has said.
