Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is set to win the support of the vote-rich Mt Kenya region as the 2022 general elections fast approaches, Kieni MP Kanini Kega has announced as he explained the reason for the decision.
According to Kega, the region will support Raila and make sure that he wins the 2022 presidential elections. Kanini Kega said that the Kikuyus will never forget how Raila supported former President Mwai Kibaki into winning the 2002 presidential seat by using his slogan 'Kibaki Tosha'. He further recalled how Raila's late father Jaramogi Odinga played a key role in helping the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta to ascend to power, indicating how dear Odinga's family has been to the people of Mt Kenya.
The Kieni MP went ahead to assure Raila of the support of the Central region come 2022 as he welcomed him to frequently visit the region to continue with his charm offensive tours.
Kega went ballistics as he threw a jibe at Deputy President William Ruto's presidential bid. According to Kega, the second-in-command does not deserve the support of Mt Kenyans. Kega believes that President Uhuru Kenyatta is the only one who can chart a path that should be followed by the people of Mt Kenya. He, therefore, went ahead to hit out at politicians who have ditched the ruling Jubilee Party for Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA), revealing that the president is opposed to their decisions.
This comes even as Orange Democratic Movement Raila Odinga is still mum on his 2022 plans, insisting that the time is not yet ripe for him to announce what seat he will be going for. However, all indications hint that his name will be on the ballot come 2022.
