Retired Gen Daniel Opande, the staff officer responsible for ceremonial duties at the Army headquarters after Mzee Jomo Kenyatta's tenure released an autobiography titled In Pursuit of Peace in Africa which reveals untold before secrets around Kenyatta's Burial.

In his book, retired General Opande recounts the first time Jomo Kenyatta's body was secretly retrieved from the mausoleum, just three months after the founding President was buried.

The body was taken to City Mortuary to have it professionally cared for and then returned it to the Parliament grounds. 
Opande was at the time serving as the Army's head of ceremonial duties and had been assigned by the then Army Commander, General Jackson Mulinge to oversee the extraction of the former President's remains under the guidance of his physician Dr Eric Mwangola.
