Martha Koome Appointed Chief Justice

President Uhuru Kenyatta appoints Martha Koome as the new chief justice. This was after approval by the National Assembly.

Hon. Koome beats nine other candidates. She is the first female chief justice. Koome awaits a formal nomination at the moment.

The Justice and Legal Affairs committee recommended her approval. The committee says that after interviewing Martha Koome. They found out that she was suitable to act as the chief justice of Kenya.

She is qualified and has the proper experience to deal with the judiciary. She should start fixing the relationship between the three arms of government.

Hon. Martha Koome has demonstrated she believes in active constitutionalism. She has distinguished herself in upholding the constitution. Without the influence of political and ethnic considerations.

Koome has a post-Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.

MPs were divided on the future of the Judiciary's independence. Some members accusing it of propagating Judicial capture of the state. This was after the Judges nullified the Building Bridges Initiative(BBI) amendment process.
